Flight Training Articles
Flight school is an amazing experience! One learns the basics. Stalls, landings, and how to be Pilot In Command (PIC). However, when you graduate you are hired as a First Officer or Co-pilot. How much training did you receive on how to be a First Officer? The answer is none at all. In fact, most training is done by flight instructors with no work experience at all. It is no wonder most First Officers only last a few weeks on their first job. Being placed on "Stand-Bye!"
These series of articles are based upon my 30 years as both a Corporate Pilot and Flight Instructor. Hopefully this will give you the insight that is lacking at our flight schools so you can hold onto that first job!
God Bless! Keep Flying Speed!
Captain Robert "That Guy" Riter

You have completed your flight training and our now interviewing with captains! Congratulations! What can you talk about? That you are a bad ass in a Cessna 172? That you can shoot approaches down to minimums? Do this and you will get a blank stare with dull eyes from the captains interviewing you!
How about you talk about something you have never even seen, but is one of
the most dangerous parts of the aircraft. A part of the aircraft that is completely in your control as a First Officer. A part of the flight that can mean the life or death of a passenger. The air door! So come along with me and bring some appetizers. Especially the Chimichangas!
